The IBM Building Altstetten, Zurich, Switzerland

Designed by architect Max Dudler and built by Allreal, this building provides IBM`s 2,200 employees with a modern office environment of 38,000 m².

The lighting design finds its inspiration in the clear simplicity of the architectural forms and accentuates them.

Visitors move through high hallways suffused with light, traversing transitional areas of restrained lighting, to finally arrive at uniformly lit activity areas.

The concept for the artificial lighting was conceived as an interplay with daylight, taking unwanted glare into account. The “glass skin” is designed as a ventilated façade, i.e. all the outgoing exhaust air is purged from the building through its 465 mm thick windows, the interiors of which have textile blinds that provide sun and glare protection.
