Renewal Town Theater Langenthal, Langenthal, Schweiz

DESCRIPTION
As part of the overall renovation of the Stadttheater in Langenthal, the main entrance was moved from the west to the north side, an internal extension with a 4th hall was installed and a reorganization of the main staircase with wheelchair access was realized. Likewise, all home technology installations incl. the stage technology were renewed.

The Stadttheater as a central cultural center of the city of Langenthal and the Oberaargau region was strengthened with the realization of this building project in its validity and charisma and its reputation was strengthened in belonging to the important middle guest playhouses in Switzerland.

LIGHTING CONCEPT
outer space
The street-side façades of the building are finely brightened in the dark hours with a focus on the entrance situation and create an attractive long-distance effect in the urban fabric. Gobo projectors can be used to differentiate the brightness progression and to minimize light emissions into the night sky. The windows as well as the surroundings were “cut out” to avoid disturbing glare in the interior.
The windows are used by the glittering chandeliers and enliven the house of inside. The entrance situation with the generous staircase is precisely illuminated by spotlights on 12m high masts and the entrances are accentuated with cylindrical glass pendant lights.

inner space
The lighting in the Stadttheater Langen thal characterizes the atmosphere in the historic architecture through the predominantly brilliant light and chandeliers, and in a fresh way strengthens the theater ambience of the house.
The brightness level in the building was deliberately kept low. The mood is in the foreground. The prevailing light color is 2’700 – 3’000K (warm white).

The historic lights in the large hall and in the development were left when possible. Through a gentle cleaning, a new wiring and the replacement of glass parts, where necessary, shine the simple crystal chandeliers in new splendor.

The addition of illumination in the development with a festive, modern illuminated language creates a connection to the architecture thanks to its lighting effect and visually shapes it.

The lighting in the foyer can create a muted, festive mood for pauses and aperitifs, but also illuminate the space as an experimental stage space.
The lighting technology in the former coat lights was renewed and led out in LED. This sets a brilliant point of light in the frosted glass bowls and makes the polished glass cuts look ideal.
The formation of a fine indirect light has received a lot of attention, as well as the use of an LED module with a warm-dimming function which, with the dimming of the luminaires, steplessly lowers the color temperature from 3’000K to 2’000K.

The wardrobe lighting was matched with the stage lighting, so that the preparation of the mirrors in the backstay rooms is comparable to the conditions on the stage.

LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY
The chandeliers were still equipped with conventional lamp holders. Today’s operation with halogen incandescent lamps should be replaced with the presence of equivalent more efficient light sources with these. The focus is on the excellent dimming, the light color including its change, the brilliance of the light and on the high color rendering.
