Situated in the middle of Pfäffikon, the Huob Centre is comprised of apartment and office buildings, a kindergarten and a senior residence complex encompassing 67 apartments of various sizes, an 18-room care facility, restaurants and a therapy and fitness facility with swimming pool. The blue office building was constructed along the main street, shielding the senior residence and the courtyards from intruding street noise. The building provides 5,000 m2 of floor space. The red-cubed apartment complex encompasses 47 apartments, medical and business offices, and a kindergarten.
The lighting of the exterior spaces is distinctive in that it is primarily illuminated by the building itself. The staircases of the apartment buildings, for example, are conceived as lanterns which graze the façades of the buildings with light in the evening, while allowing light to enter during the day.
The lighting of the interior spaces in the senior residence is designed to provide higher illumination levels than those set forth by codes to promote better vision for the elderly. The lighting concept takes special consideration of the deteriorating eyesight of its inhabitants and helps provide a simple path of orientation.
