Control Centre of the Hamburg Metro System, Hamburg, Germany

The consolidation of control rooms for the subway and bus systems in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg came to fruition in a two-storey addition to the main building.

DAYLIGHT

A skylight with double-glazed windows and sun-shielding louvers was installed in the subway control room. A special anti-glare screen underneath the glass ensures a glare-free working environment during peak sun hours. All the windows are equipped with roller blinds. A metallic thermal coating ensures a reduced heat load.

CRONOBIOLOGY

Circular pendant luminaires in the control room provide 360 degrees of direct lighting without any issues of glare discomfort, while also providing broad indirect lighting. A control system set to workers’ circadian rhythms regulates varying zones of illumination and “visual keys”.
