Katharina Sulzer Square, Winterthur, Switzerland

The inspiration for this lighting design comes primarily from spatial design elements and the preserved industrial architecture. A particular feature of the layout is its prominent longitudinal extension, which turns the obtained space in ideal alignment with a bike path and walking pedestrians. The lighting takes this circumstance into account and washes the east side of the square with the right amount of light for pedestrians and bikers.

An old crane track suspended in the courtyard provides a frame for the lighting design. Restrained blue lighting along the tracks accentuates this important element of the frame at night and delineates the space.
